“Bienvenue en France!” - that’s what your tempted to say when you enter French bistro L’Education Nationale on Larsbjørnsstræde. The restaurant has existed in this narrow street for more than 20 years, and has become somewhat of a culinary institution in Copenhagen. The idea from the get-go was to give Copenhageners the opportunity to eat and enjoy themselves at a real French bistro - like you’d find them in Lyon or less crowded areas of Paris. It’s been so succesful that many of the French people residing in Copenhagen frequently visit L’Education Nationale. The kitchen chef is French, from Brittany, just like several of the waiters are French. The food is served in great sizes and brought to the table smoking hot in orange Le Creuset casseroles. The menu contains familiar and well-made French classics such as moules marinères, bouillabaisse, French onion soup, confit and crème brûlée; and you can even look forward to trying authentic delicacies that they’ve brought with them local places in France. The atmosphere and the aesthetic expression is completely French from the charming red-white checkered table cloths, to the French music and the overall cozy decoration. The food, the vibe, and the rustic interior design go well together, making L’Education Nationale a culinary experience that can’t be more French.
