A historic ship with a story
Yes, Oranje was built in 1898 in the Netherlands and originally sailed as a cargo ship across Northern European waters. It arrived in Denmark in 1931, was based in Nyord, and worked as a “sea farmer,” transporting grain, feed, and fertilizer until 1967.
For a while, the ship became the center of a dream to sail around the world. In 1986, its transformation into a restaurant began, and three years later, in 1989, it opened as Restaurant Oranje in Svendborg. In 2016, the ship arrived in Nyhavn, and since 2019, Oranje has been operated as a beloved floating restaurant — a piece of living maritime history now serving some of Copenhagen’s freshest food and atmosphere.
