Michelin-recommended French fine dining with 5 stars in Berlingske

Why you should dine here:

  • Michelin-recommended fine dining
  • 5 big stars in Berlingske – “deserves a Michelin star”
  • French roots meet Nordic ingredients
  • Intimate gourmet restaurant close to the Royal Danish Theatre and Kongens Nytorv
  • Technical precision and innovation in perfect balance

A Michelin-recommended restaurant built on family and friendship

Restaurant à terre is tucked away in the quiet streets behind the Royal Danish Theatre and created with heart at the forefront. Its foundation is soul, trust, family and friendship.

Behind the restaurant are the widely respected Yves Le Lay and his close friend and head chef Nicolaj Køster. Together, they have created a small, intimate universe where there is time for each guest, and where hospitality matters just as much as gastronomy. When you step inside, the ambition is to create a moment out of time, where the world outside disappears for a while.

The Michelin Guide recommends the restaurant and highlights how “global influences are added to a classical French foundation, with quality ingredients forming the basis for simple yet powerfully flavoured dishes.”

Five stars for the French kitchen

The kitchen is rooted in French cuisine, combined with Nordic ingredients and subtle Asian references. The focus is on intense, pure flavours and great technical precision, in a constant balance between the classical and the innovative.

Berlingske’s Søren Frank has also visited and awarded “five big stars for an evening that was both flawless and stimulating, in sure French hands.” He adds that “à terre deserves a Michelin star, and I would venture to claim that it would indeed have one if it were located in France or, for that matter, in the Danish provinces.”

A thought-through wine experience

The wine cellar reflects both tradition and curiosity, with classic French regions side by side with newer, cooler-climate expressions that bring freshness and precision to the menu. New producers and interesting wines from around the world are added on an ongoing basis.

The cocktail list is minimalist but carefully composed, and selected alcohol-free options such as kombucha and tea-based drinks are also available.
