Restaurant Maven is located in the belly of Nikolaj Church, right in the old medieval part of Copenhagen and close to the city’s vibrant pulse.
The name Maven is borrowed from the square’s old nickname from the 1800s, when the area was home to the city’s butcher stalls and known as Copenhagen’s “stomach.” The bloody traces are long gone, but the down-to-earth, informal charm lives on today in a lively restaurant filled with warmth and personality.
At Maven, the kitchen is classic and straightforward, rooted in Danish-French cuisine. The focus is on quality ingredients, solid craftsmanship, and flavors that are clean, clear, and honest on the plate.
The menu is complemented by a carefully selected range of wines and beers.
Despite the church’s impressive architecture, the spacious and light-filled dining rooms feel both intimate and welcoming.
Berlingske reviewer Søren Jacobsen Damm awards the restaurant 4 stars, and says: “It’s hard to find a restaurant with a more central and optimal location than the quintessentially Copenhagen Restaurant Maven, where you also eat very well.”
